It’s Official | Bryan Singer to Direct X-Men: Days of Future Past

In case you remember Bryan Singer from box office misses such as Superman Returns, Jack and the Giant Slayer (2013) or the recently aired “Mockingbird Lane” Halloween special … Fox wants you to forget about all of that recent history.  Instead, remember him as the man that made comic book movies relevant again with X-Men and X2:X-Men United.  Even better, now that Matthew Vaughn has bailed (again … seriously, he’s got commitment issues), Fox has confirmed that Bryan Singer will direct X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Days of Future Past is the incredible story of an alternate universe where giant robot Sentinels hunt and kill mutants, and the future daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey-Summers helped hunt them down.  Wolverine and others played pretty prominently into the storyline, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Hugh Jackman finished up “The Wolverine” (which takes place after the events of X-Men 3) and joins the cast of Days of Future Past.

Cast has not been announced yet, but I’ll be money that the old X-Men series and the First Class prequels will likely merge storylines.

Matthew Vaughn No Longer Directing Next X-Men | Bryan Singer Rumored to Direct

Well this is unexpected news. Kick-Ass and X-Men First Class director Matthew Vaughn has reportedly dropped out of directing the next X-Men movie, X-Men Days of Future Past. Why is still not officially known yet. Where it continues to get interesting is that X-Men and X2 Director as well as X-Men First Class producer, Bryan Singer, is rumored to be his replacement.

So we’ll see what happens next. The next X-Men was set to begin filming in January and was to come out Summer of 2014, so they have alittle time to find a new director, though Singer is right on the doorstep if not already in of course. Some people have been very happy with Vaughn, though we all know there are the loyal Singer fans. Either way credit is always due to Singer because it was X-Men that set off the very first/successful comic book movie which has helped lead to what we have today.

A month ago, Singer went on record to say, that given the famous narrative of the Days of Future Past storyline (which features time travel and various characters) it is very likely to see previous X-Men in the movie given the success of The Avengers and the nature of the story to truly allow this to happen. AND THEN Patrick Stewart said at a random convention that he was in fact returning but that it was a secret…stay tuned.

Maybe he felt awkward seeing January Jones after knocking her up. Maury? ‘Matthew Vaughn you are the father of January Jones’ baby.’ Hey now that s nothing to be embarrassed of Matthew. http://youtu.be/SGtWssdauME

X-Men Sequel Titled X-Men Days of Future Past

X-men/X2 director and producer to X-men First Class Bryan Singer has confirmed the next X-movie (Summer 2014) will be called X-men: Days of Future Past. The title comes from one of the most famous X-men and comic book stories out there, where the x-men have essentially failed, are mostly dead and the world is ruled by sentinels aka big giant robots. It starts with the assassination of a US senator, all mutants being blamed, government useing sentinels and of course it backfires with the sentinels pulling a terminator uprising.

Days of Future Past story line courtesy of Wiki:

The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. She succeeds in her mission and returns to the future, but despite her success, the future timeline still exists as an alternative timeline rather than as the actual future
