Avengers sets new opening weekend record | Estimated $200.3 million

The Avengers is estimated to have broken the opening weekend record by more than 18%. After an $80.5m Friday, most outlets were saying the Avengers is challenging Harry Potter’s finale for the top spot with a predicted $170 in revenue. When you see revenue list as barely $1m over the existing record of $169.2 million, that means everyone knows the Avengers will break the record but no one knows how much.

Likewise, I get suspicious of seeing an estimate barely over $200m (final numbers released on Monday) … Marvel wants to lay claim to having the first $200m weekend, and I hope the final number remains that high or goes much higher.

According to THR, the international haul is $441 making the 12 day worldwide total for the Avengers at $641m right now. Disney’s investment is starting to pay off. For every John Carter, the pendulum must swing another way …

I’m seeing it a second time tonight and will write a review if no one else does. Winklevi … you’re gonna love this movie, man. Give them your money!

the Avengers trailer has been released

Marvel released the trailer for the Avengers. It doesn’t give away the plot, or the villain, but has plenty of the heroes interacting.

      1. Cant wait.

      2. I like Mark Ruffalo, but I wish I saw Ed Norton saying thanks at the end

      3. If I was a actor, I’d like to be Jackson: purple lightsabers, beating the emperor, dying by force lightening, and finally eye patches and Avenger initiatives.

    Clark Gregg

You know him as Agent Coulson from Iron Man, Thor, and the upcoming Avengers movies. He’s also the guy credited with writing the screenplay for What Lies Beneath. If you still feel horrible about every movie Harrison Ford has taken since “The Fugitive” – go see What Lies Beneath. Worth throwing onto your Netflix cue if you haven’t cancelled your subscription in protest of the 60% price hike.
